Project Summary:

This project was developed as a High Capacity Manufacturing Facility (HCMF) for a new drug in tablet form being developed for MSD, as a new building contained within a large existing site.

A new connection was made to the site HV ring main, providing power to a new transformer, and then to two new switchboards, splitting down to local distribution boards, utilising external and internal busbar, SWA cabling and a combination of twin and earth and singles.

The new L2 fire alarm installation has been configured to match the existing sitewide infrastructure.

A new data cabinet handling all the process equipment data has been installed and also links to the existing site wide infrastructure.

Access Control has been installed, again matching the extant system, along with a new stand alone system within the HCMF building, controlling airlock doors.

A new medium pressure gas main has been brought onto the site to feed the steam generator. The steam generator produces the steam that feeds the heater batteries on the process equipment air handling units, a plate heat exchanger that provides the Low Temperature Hot Water that heats the duct mounted heater batteries, bringing the temperature in the manufacturing rooms up to comfortable levels as, due to the control method for reducing moisture content in the fresh air supply, the air leaves the Air Handling units at a temperature of 12 degrees C, and the steam plant also provides the medium for heating the domestic hot water service, via a calorifier fitted with a steam bundle.

Two chillers have been installed on an external plant deck, serving the air handling units and purified water plant.

Water softening plant is installed, providing water to all outlets except the water supply to changing areas, which is from the existing site ring main.

Air Handling Units with steam, LTHW and Chilled Water coils provide conditioned air to the facility, matched to extract units set to provide an air cascade to ensure the manufacturing rooms remain under positive pressure.

A compressed air system has been provided, providing air for various manufacturing and product contact processes.

A bespoke Building Management system has been designed and installed, ensuring the environmental conditions within the factory remain constant. Critical alarms are raised if certain key rooms in the manufacturing area suffer pressure loss or gain. Temperature control is linked to air moisture content, to ensure room humidity and temperature remain stable by controlling the air temperature from the air handling units to 12 deg C to achieve the air moisture content, and duct mounted heater batteries are then used to increase the air temperature.
